Flattering a Cone-Shaped Figure
First of all, let me say you're lucky! A body
type that's wider on top and slimmer on the bottom is one of those sought-after
ideals (check out the sketches in fashion books and magazines, and you'll
see this a lot!). That said, it sounds like you're asking how
to balance your overall look so that it's proportionate.
One of the best tricks for this is to wear a darker color top (preferably one without shoulder pads) and a lighter color bottom (like a light skirt or khaki pants). An A-line skirt will also work well for you, as will other full-skirted or wide-legged pant looks.
Avoid broad-shouldered and double-breasted jackets, both of which emphasize the shoulder line, and tops with drop-shoulders or batwing sleeves, which draw a lot of attention to the top of your body.
Monochromatic dressing can work for you, too, but to balance the look, add a touch that draws the eye downward--an interesting belt that rests at the hip line, or brightly colored or otherwise visually interesting shoes. Hope that helps--and again, congratulations on your shape! Keep your shoulders back and your head up, and feel your confidence!
