Common Shoe Damage (Engineering Project)

I am an engineering student who is currently inventing a project that will increase a shoes durability. I was hoping I could ask one of your shoe experts about common damage to shoes. Thank you

Now that's a project I can get behind--I have lost so many beloved shoes over the years....

Scuffs and tears in the shoe material are among the most frequent types of damage to shoes; they scuff one another or get caught on various items, heels get stuck in grates and rip, etc. Heels and soles wear down over time and need to be replaced; increasing the durability of this hard-working part of the shoe would be a fantastic build and greatly extend their life.

Finally, for women's heels, the heel will sometimes break or separate from the sole of the shoe. Heels are typically reinforced with a steel spike, but that spike doesn't always attach as securely as it should.

I hope your project is a great success!
