Leather may mildew if stored in a plastic bag. Keep in a cool, well-ventilated area. Be sure to use professional leather cleaners when your pants, skirt, or jacket need cleaning, and if there are two pieces or more to an outfit, be sure to always have them cleaned together to make sure the color remains consistent and any fading will be uniform.

Keep in mind some disasters can't be fixed. Last year I splashed gasoline on the sleeve of my lambskin leather jacket, which I'd had for years and which was just beginning to get that soft, faded look and feel. I consulted several leather cleaners, who all advised me that based on the color (black), the type of leather (porous) and the amount of gasoline (a lot--apparently I was auditioning for the Darwin Awards that day), I would be better off just getting a new jacket. Fortunately it was the time of year when leather jackets are on clearance.
