Jewelry designer Landon Slane says "The best thing about chokers is that they're flexible. You can wear them with anything, aside from a turtleneck."

This, of course, depends on the mood of the choker. Heavier ones look great with crewneck, boatneck, or jewel-neck tops during the day, or a elegant evening dress that shows your throat and collarbones.

If the choker has different colors in it (multiple beads, etc.), look for an outfit that picks up the colors of the beads. Contrasting colors also look great, according to Slane.

Many chokers now are simple leather cords or fabric ribbons with a charm or pendant; these can be casual or dressy since for the most part they pick up the mood of your outfit (black is the most flexible color in this regard. Surprise, surprise.)
