Stein Mart is one of my favorite shoe haunts; I've never had much luck shopping for clothes here, but I'm determined to give every store a shot. Besides, it's in the same shopping center as T J Maxx, and since it's getting late on Sunday afternoon, this is my last stop of the day.

My first stop is the shoe department, but even I realize I don't need any more shoes at the moment--an inventory of my closet has turned up 27 pairs of black shoes alone. So, after a quick once-over, I brave the clothing racks.

I've always had a harder time shopping Stein Mart than T J Maxx for the simple reason that I don't understand their merchandising system. They showcase clothing on racks like any department store, but the departments all run together into a sea of clothing, and again I don't see the logic. At least T J Maxx merchandises sweaters with sweaters, pants with pants, etc. There's a lot to look at, but I can find a focus and go with it. Here, I look at a few things, picking them up and carrying them around, but end up putting them back without even trying them on. Tney're not really what I want, anyway.

Done for the day and a little discouraged, I head for home.
