How to Build a Foolproof Work Wardrobe
If you've just started a new job or gotten
a big promotion and need a big wardrobe upgrade, here's a basic shopping
list to get you started.
To save money, shop during a big sale at Macy's or another well-known retailer with a great selection, or go to an off-price store, like my much-loved TJ Maxx.
- A classic black or navy wool gabardine blazer
- a tailored white shirt
- a basic sheath dress to coordinate with the blazer
- a long-sleeved, fitted crewneck sweater or sweater set in a lightweight knit
- a slim skirt that hits just above the knee
- tailored trousers (flat front are most flattering for most body types)
- midheel pumps
- traditional closed-toe flats or loafers
- a narrow leather belt
- a sleek tote bag
- When shopping, pick a neutral color as your main theme (black, navy, charcoal, camel, or brown).
Once you have the basic elements, add color with accessories, such as shoes, scarves, jewelry, etc.
